English: 88226074 :Piction ID--GROUND TESTING FOR SPACE FLIGHT -- Driven by 105,000 pounds of rocket thrust, an Air Force sled begings 1,000-mph run on seven-mile-long rails at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, to subject guidance system of Centaur space vehicle to rigors of space flight. Located inside the sled, the guidance system is being evaluated under flight-like vibration and acceleration. The tests, which provide a relatively inexpensive simulation of actual flight, are conducted for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) by the U.S. Air Force. Centaur is being developed by thte Astronautics division at General Dynamics Corp., under the direction of NASA's Lewis Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio. Honeywell Inc., produced the guidance system under contract to NASA-LeRC.
