Summary

Description
English: Instrument of the scientific satellite Advanced Composition Explorer. The Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer

(SWICS) determines not only the charge of ions, but also the temperature and speeds of all the major solar wind ions. SWICS covers solar wind speeds ranging from 145 km/s (protons) to 1532 km/s (iron). The information recovered tells scientists about the nature of not only the solar wind, but also of solar

flares, ISPs, CIRs, and pickup ions.
