English: BioSentinel’s microfluidics card, designed at NASA Ames, will be used to study the impact of interplanetary space radiation on yeast. Once in orbit, the growth and metabolic activity of the yeast will be measured using a 3-color LED detection system and a metabolic indicator dye. Here, pink wells contain actively growing yeast cells that have reduced the metabolic dye from blue to pink in color.
Italiano: La scheda microfluidica di BioSentinel, progettata dal NASA Ames Research Center e utilizzata per studiare l'impatto della radiazione spaziale interplanetaria sul lievito. Una volta in orbita, la crescita e l'attività metabolica del lievito saranno misurate usando un sistema di rilevazione LED a 3 colori e un colorante indicatore metabolico. In questa immagine i pozzetti rosa contengono cellule di lievito attivamente in crescita che hanno trasformato il colorante metabolico dal blu al colore rosa. |
