Summary
| DescriptionAmerican Meteorological Society 94th Annual Meeting (14578556523).jpg |
English: During GOES-R Ground Segment Project Scientist Jim Gurka's update on the GOES-R Proving Ground, he highlighted the GOES-R pseudo Geostationary Lightning Mapper demonstration product, which detects flash extent density. Lightning jumps are indicative of strengthening updraft and often precede severe weather so this product has been very well received by forecasters.
The 94th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting was held February 2–6 in Atlanta. The theme of the 2014 meeting was “Extreme Weather—Climate and the Built Environment: New Perspectives Opportunities, and Tools.” The AMS meeting also hosted the 10th Symposium on New Generation Operational Environmental Satellite Systems, which highlighted many of the development activities, program science and user-readiness preparations underway in the GOES-R and JPSS programs. Several members of the GOES-R and JPSS teams presented at the conference. GOES-R and JPSS were also prominently featured at the NOAA booth in the main exhibit hall with a variety of multimedia and communications and education materials made available.
