Summary
DescriptionGemini and Apollo rocket engines.jpg
English: Three bipropellant engines, the first from the Gemini program and the second and third from the Apollo program. These were used for maneuvering in space. From left to right:
Gemini SE-6
These provided attitude and maneuvering control for the Gemini module. These engines were fired in pairs to provide torque along the three axes of rotation. Sixteen SE-6 engines made up the Reentry Control System (RCS) in the nose of the Gemini spacecraft. These were made of steel, with an ablative nozzle by Rocketdyne, and produced 25 pounds of thrust.
Apollo Command Module SE-8
Twelve of these engines provided reaction control to the Command Module after separation from the service module, including rotation control, rate damping, and attitude control. Produced 93 pounds of thrust.
Apollo Lunar Module R-4D
Four clusters of four engines, one cluster at each corner of the Lunar Module, provided attitude control. Each featured a molybdenum nozzle, was radiation cooled, and provided 100 pounds of thrust. This particular engine was manufactured by Marquardt Corp, part number 228686-501. It was test fired four times during Lunar Module testing.
