Description
English: Robert R. Gilruth (Portrait) an engineering observer in the late 1930s, had a keen appreciation for the pilot's side of the man-machine relationship. He learned a great deal from Melvin N. Gough, Langley's chief test pilot, who took great pains to educate Gilruth about airplane handling characteristics.
