Description
English: The Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) is a species of deer that is endemic to the islands of Java, Bali and Timor (including Timor Leste) in Indonesia.Some sources claim that Timor deer originated from Java, the Lesser Sunda Islands and Malacca, but according to other experts, the Timor deer only originated from Java and Bali. During its development, the Timor deer spreads widely to the eastern part of Indonesia along with the movement of humans. The body of the Timor deer is small with a body weight of an adult deer reaching 60 -100 kg. The physical features of this deer include short limbs, long tail, sunken forehead, relatively larger incisors, and yellowish brown hair. The body weight of a female deer can reach 100 kg. Shoulder height of adult female deer reaches 100 cm, while in males it reaches 110 cm. Body length with head approximately 120 - 130 cm, tail length 10 - 30 cm. Adult males have three-pronged horns or antlers with pointed, rough and grooved ends extending from the base to the end of the antler. The average length of the antlers is 80 - 90 cm, but some reach 111.5 cm.
